The Lady Monarch basketball program took the time to honor special teachers Tuesday evening. Each player in the basketball program presented the teacher of their choice with a homemade basketball cookie, poem and a personal note. Following the Teacher Appreciation recognition, the Lady Monarchs played host to the Hilliard Bradley Jaguars at Marysville High School.

Much like the JV game, both teams got off to a slow start offensively. The Lady Monarchs led after one period of play 5-3. That soon changed for Marysville, outscoring the Lady Jags 12-5 in the second quarter, taking a 17-8 lead in to the half. Tinley Graves led all first half scorers with 6 points.

The second half was much different with than the first, both teams took the lid off the hoops and put points on the board. End of third quarter – Marysville 35, Bradley 23. Coach DeDent lit a fire in between periods and the Jags were able to cut into Marysville’s lead quickly in the 4th quarter by a score of 35-33, but that would be as close as Bradley could get. The Lady Monarchs hit their free throws down the home stretch, outlasting the Jags 48-40.

Tinley Graves led all scorers with 18 points including four 3-pointers and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.

The Lady Monarchs are back in action Friday night versus Central Crossing at Marysville High School. For updates, follow @MHSLadyMonarchs on Twitter and Facebook.
