The Lady Monarchs opened the 2017 season against Bishop Watterson on Saturday. After a pre-game lightning delay the JVs took the field and ended the first half with a 1-0 lead scored by Kindall Duke assisted by Kennedy Welsh. Second half play ended in a 4-2 win with goals by Ashlee Fishbaugh, Kindall Duke, and Emily Daniel, with one assist by Emily Daniel and Kindall Duke having two. In the goal for the Monarchs was Morgan Roby. It was a great start to the season for the Lady Monarchs JV team.
The Varsity team came out in the first half firing on every cylinder and ended the half on a 1-0 lead. Scoring for the Monarchs was Sarah O’Neill off of a cross corner kick by Hope Powers. First half goalkeeper was Kinzi Lee with 3 saves
During halftime heat lightning extended the delay to a 96 minute halftime. The girls came out in the second half a little flat giving up two goals in less than two minutes, one of which was a penalty kick. After a few minutes to get settled in, the Varsity squad battled back by scoring on their own penalty kick with Madison Shumway. The game ended in a draw 2 to 2. Tending the net second half was Anna Weigand also with 3 saves. It was one of the most physical games we have seen in a while. Looking forward to the next week’s match against Liberty.
The Monarchs will host Olentangy Liberty Tuesday the 29th.
