Marysville varsity boy’s lacrosse beat Kettering Fairmont High School 9-8 Saturday. The game started out with the Monarchs dominating the first quarter. During the first quarter Sean Murray was hot with 3 assists and 1 goal. Luke Peterson was on fire also tallying 3 goals and 1 assist. Fairmont held the Monarchs to 1 goal netted by Mark Frendberg with an assist from Tyler Richardson during the second quarter while they netted 3. Heading into halftime the score was 7-4.
At the start of the third quarter the rain stopped and both teams struggled at the net while tallying up penalties. Each team had a hard time settling on the field which lead to numerous turnovers. The lone goal in the third was netted by Luke Peterson with an assist from Murray. With 4:34 left in the fourth quarter the game was tied 8-8. Both teams fought hard and tallied 2 penalties each during the last 3 minutes. With 1:58 left Fairmont had a cross check 2 minute non-releasable penalty that put Marysville in the man up advantage. Richardson netted the winning goal at 1:25 left in the quarter. Monarch defense had to play tough and smart for the last few seconds after Hunter Wilson was charged with an non-releasable illegal cross check to the head with 22 seconds remaining. Marysville played tough those last few seconds and walked away with the win.
Goalie Nate Golden was fierce in the cage for the day with 12 saves. Face off men Mike Gingras went 6 out of 13 while Matt Chalmers was 4 for 6.
Monarchs are now 4-3 for the season. They are in play Monday at Dublin Coffman along with the Junior Varsity.
