Each spring, the OHSAA, in partnership with its member schools, presents awards to exemplary individuals. Below are this year’s OHSAA Award winners for Marysville Exempted Village Schools.  In addition, MEVSD presents it’s annual awards for Athlete of the Year, Barney Galloway Award, and the Polly & Warren Widner Scholarship.

ARCHIE GRIFFIN SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD

Sportsmanship, ethics and integrity are essential components of any successful athletic program. As part of an ongoing program to promote Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity, the Ohio High School Athletic Association would like to recognize students who display exemplary sportsmanship. This award is named for Archie Griffin. Mr. Griffin is an Ohio native, the only two-time recipient of the Heisman Trophy for football, and as a professional athlete, he always displayed exemplary sportsmanship.

This years recipients of the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award for Marysville Exempted Village Schools are: Skylar Lawson & Haley Cook

 

 


NFHS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

The National Federation of High School’s Board of Directors and NFHS Citizenship Committee has permitted each OHSAA member high school to award the NFHS National Award of Excellence to one male and one female senior student who has displayed exemplary sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.

This year’s recipients of the NFHS National Award of Excellence for Marysville Exempted Village Schools are: Noah Brown & Isabelle Shroyer

 


OHSAA Scholar Athlete Award

As a part of our ongoing program which encourages achievement in the classroom as well as on the playing surface, the OHSAA recognizes the top male and female scholar athlete in each school with the OHSAA Scholar Athlete Award. The OHSAA Scholar Athlete award is presented to the top male and female senior student-athlete that has the highest scholastic average after the first semester and has earned a minimum of four varsity letters. This year’s recipients of the OHSAA Scholar Athlete Award for Marysville Exempted Village Schools are: Tristan Karnes & Leanne Eichorn

 


NFHS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

OHSAA Courageous Student Award

The Ohio High School Athletic Association continues to disseminate a “Courageous Student” award to be made available to every OHSAA member high school. Each high school may present this certificate to One deserving individual in their local school.

Suggested guidelines for selection:

  1. A student who either currently has, or who has overcome, a serious illness, injury, or disability.
  2. A student who has overcome great adversity in a positive way (challenging social or family situation).
  3. A student who has gone far beyond normal in assisting a fellow student, family member or friend.
  4. Other extraordinary situations, where a student has displayed tremendous courage against overwhelming odds.

This award is intended to bring credit to a very special student who has been involved in, or supportive of, the interscholastic athletic program, and who deserves recognition for courage.

This year’s recipient of the OHSAA Courageous Student Award is: Madison Sharp

 


MEVSD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Each year the Marysville Athletic Department selects one male and one female as the MEVSD Athlete of the Year who are considered the most outstanding in their respective programs.  There are many student athletes with great accomplishments that make this a challenging decision.  The recipients of AOTY are: Chase Kilgore & Jenna Rioch

 


BARNEY GALLOWAY AWARD

Each year the Marysville Athletic Department selects one recipient for the Barney Galloway Award.  This award is given to one multi sport athlete who also demonstrates good citizenship and a high GPA.  The recipient of this years award is:  Jacquelyn Witt.

 


POLLY & WARREN WIDNER SCHOLARSHIP

This award is given to one female student athlete who possesses the qualities of high athletic and academic achievement and community involvement.  Polly & Warren Widner were staples in the Marysville community and school district.  Polly served as a physical education teacher and basketball coach and Warren was an administrator and basketball coach as well.  The recipient of the 2019-20 Polly & Warren Widner Scholarship is: Mikayla Seman
