2019 Monarch Indoor

Track and Field Club

Purpose:  To begin pre-season conditioning over the winter in order to prepare all Monarchs for the 2019 Track & Field season this spring.  Overall emphasis for all athletes will be on speed, injury prevention, core-strength, drills, event skills, and flexibility.  Athletes participating in Indoor Track and Field must be committed to personal development and improvement.


Final Forms- Athletes MUST sign up for “Winter Coed Indoor Track and Field” via Final Forms. If you need to create an account, go to the Athletics Website. Athletes need a current physical (valid for one calendar year) and EMF. This is mandatory!!!


Grades: – Athletes must maintain academic eligibility (1.5 gpa and passing 5 classes) to participate.

  • Attendance will be taken daily, so SHOW UP and workout with your team!!!


In the event of weather cancellations, we will NOT have indoor conditioning. (ie no morning PV if on a 2 hour delay)

Gear:  Bring BOTH inside and outside clothes to EACH DAY!!!!

  • T-shirt, shorts, sweatshirt, running pants, running shoes, hat, gloves, etc.


Distance Runners: See Coach Sundermeier or Coach Rayburn for more information. You should be prepared to run outside (hat, gloves, etc) EVERY DAY. Running logs MUST be kept (via R2W website).  A weekly training plan will be provided via R2W.


Pole Vaulters:  As in years past, all prospective pole vaulters will be invited to participate in several drills sessions throughout the winter. These will be dependant upon Fieldhouse availability. Tentatively Wednesday mornings at 6:30am. Pay attention to announcements.


Indoor Meets:  Many colleges and universities around the state host high school indoor meets.  OHSAA does NOT recognize indoor T&F as an official “varsity sport,”.  There is an Indoor State Meet for qualifiers (top 24 in each event).  To compete in indoor meets (any running, jumping, and/or throwing events), athletes will need to:

  • Attend training sessions regularly

  • All athletes must compete in AT LEAST ONE indoor meet if they participate in indoor track.

  • Be recommended by the coaches. Coaches will determine lineups for team indoor meets (see below).

  • Be in competition shape (solid base, no injuries).

  • Must be passing 5 classes and maintain a 1.5 gpa (academically eligible).

  • Pay entry fees (usually around $20 per meet)- Entry fees due the Wednesday before the meet.

  • Compete in School Issued Uniform

  • Provide your own transportation to and from meets. Limited transportation may be available for some meets (via school vans).

  • Compete in no more than 5 total indoor meets (Exception= State Indoor Meet)

Ohio Wesleyan University Open Track/Practice:

  • OWU is hosting open track nights. You will need to sign a waiver and pay $5 (every time) to use their facility. Please consult with event coaches on drills and workouts. Some transportation MIGHT be available for these sessions. Pay attention to announcements.
